It is so pleasant to get away from the busyness that distracts us from the truly important. I have been sitting under an awning looking at these trees for over an hour. I’ve been listening to what must be the lightest rain I’ve experienced tap on the awning.

The sound competes with the squirrel I see scolding some unseen nemesis. Even the sound of the road runner rustling leaves as it passes within ten feet of where I sit motionless is louder than the pittering of the rain.

For me truly letting go of my control and trusting in God’s word has brought similar peace to my soul. His teaching can be so quiet that other good and pleasing things can be louder if we don’t pay attention.
